Sunday, the Lord's day
Sunday is called the "Lord's day" because on Sunday our Lord Jesus Christ rose victorious from death.
By a tradition handed down from the Apostles on Sunday the Christians gather to listen to the word of God and to take part in the Mass; thus calling to mind the Passion, the Resurrection and Glory of their Lord Jesus Christ and giving thanks to God for his immeasurable love. Sunday is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal church: Christians are bound to participate in the mass.
On Sundays the Christians are bound to abstain from those laborious and business concerns which impede the worship and thanks to be rendered to God, and the joy which is proper to the Lord's day, or the proper relaxation of mind and body.
Sunday is consecrated to charitable actions and humble service of the sick, the infirm and the elderly. The institution of the Lord's day helps everyone to enjoy adequate rest and leisure, to cultivate their familiar cultural, social and religious lives.
All people are invited to attend the Sunday Mass; it is the best way to be acquainted with Christ's saving doctrine.
You too are welcome to Sunday's Mass.
