LIGHT SHOULD SHINE
I am the light of the world, says the Lord. He shows us the way to our true happiness.
He tells us in turn: you are the light of the world.
Our faith is strengthened very much when we see persons who by the way they live give shape to the Gospel, make it come alive. This is also the kind of people who attract others to our faith; they do so more than any teaching of doctrines. In them the light of Christ shines. Through them the light of Christ enlightens all people.
This is what Christ calls us to be: his light to the world.
A light that wants to shine must consume itself; as it enlightens the world, it quietly dies.
A light that wants to shine can have no other desire than to stand where God wants it to be.
A light that wants to shine must accept to give courage, light and warmth to others but to be itself a mere trifle.
According to Jesus, our task in the world is to live according to the Gospel, so that God's light can shine in the world.
"You are the light of the world.... No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men" (Mt. 5: 14)
